It may sound like something right out of an episode of a TV crime drama, but trigger finger is a real-life condition. And if you are one of an estimated 200,000 people who suffer from pain and swelling when one of their fingers stiffens and locks in place, getting relief isn’t as simple as changing the channel.

Trigger finger is primarily caused by an inflammation of the finger’s tendon sheath. It can occur in any of our fingers, including the thumb, and is characterized by stiffness (particularly in the morning), a clicking or popping feeling, and tenderness at the joint. The affected finger may lock when bent, only to pop straight again. Sometimes the bent finger can’t even be straightened. More than one of your fingers can be affected, as well as both hands. People with jobs or hobbies that involve repetitive grasping are at increased risk, as are those with diabetes or rheumatoid arthritis. Women are more commonly affected.
At the offices of Therapeutics Unlimited, our physical therapists are experts at bringing the body’s delicate mechanics back into balance. In our supportive environment, we will help you resolve this painful condition naturally, using your own body’s ability to heal itself. Don’t hesitate to contact our office today to set up an appointment for a consultation.
